University of Maryland Medical Center
The University of Maryland Medical Center is a Magnet and highly specialized academic tertiary care center for Maryland with more intensive care beds than any other hospital in the state. It serves as a regional referral center for the most serious and complicated health problems in adults and children. UMMC is also home of the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center which is the core element of Maryland’s statewide EMS system, serving as the state’s primary adult trauma clinical resource center (PARC). With over 8,600 admissions a year, the focus of the twelve trauma units vary in acuity level, focus of injury and specialization. Additional critical care/trauma tower opens 2013.
