it with colleagues around the country. In this opening session, Tracy will elaborate
on this message as she reflects on her presidential year.

Tracy is a critical care clinical
nurse specialist at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Minneapolis, and
an adjunct assistant professor in the School of Nursing at the University of Minnesota.
A member of AACN since 1990, she was a member of the AACN Board of Directors from
2001 to 2004, serving as secretary from 2002 to 2004. She is also a past member
of the AACN Certification Corporation Board of Directors.

Rosemary Gibson

An unwavering commitment to patients,
particularly in the areas of end-of-life and palliative care, defines the career
of Rosemary Gibson. She led a national strategy to improve end-of-life care and
expand palliative care into mainstream healthcare. Her efforts resulted in the development
of JCAHO pain standards. Gibson worked with the producers of the PBS documentary
"On Our Own Terms" and is the author of "Wall of Silence," a book
of narratives about patient and clinician experiences with medical errors that puts
a human face on the Institute of Medicine "To Err Is Human" report.

AACN President-elect M. Dave Hanson
will accept the association leadership from President Mary Fran Tracy at this session,
where he will also unveil the theme that will anchor his presidential year. You
won't want to miss this special exchange.
Hanson is a clinical nurse specialist
in cardiovascular surgery progressive and clinical care at Clarian Health Partners-Methodist
Hospital in Indianapolis, Ind. He joined AACN in 1992 and was a member of the AACN
Board of Directors from 2001 to 2004, serving as treasurer for the last two years
of his term. Hanson is a past president of the Dallas County Chapter and is currently
actively involved in the Central Indiana Chapter.

Debra K. Moser is the recipient
of the 2007 AACN Distinguished Research Lecture Award. This award honors a nationally
known researcher who has made a significant contribution to acute and critical care
research.
Moser's
research focuses on the interaction between cognitive/psychological/behavioral factors
and physical outcomes in critically ill patients with cardiac disease. She was first
to demonstrate the physiologic, clinical and

psychological benefits of cognitive,
biobehavioral intervention-biofeedback/relaxation-in patients with advanced
heart failure.
Her work is a major step toward
an integrated, interdisciplinary approach that includes critical care nursing perspectives
as an essential part of caring for these patients.
This year's Distinguished Research Lecture will be presented in memory
of Carla C. Joliat, Philips Medical Systems, who originated the Philips-AACN Research
Grants Program and sponsorship of this presentation.
