Program Information
Education-The Foundation of NTI
The National Teaching Institute®, featuring the Advanced Practice Institute™
and Critical Care Exposition®, is AACN's premier clinical education program
providing six full days of learning and collaborative exchange. The program features
the latest advances and research in clinical practice, education, technology and
healthcare delivery and covers a wide range of topics related to the care of acutely
and critically ill patients, nursing practice, professional development and trends
in healthcare. The program features adult, pediatric, neonatal, progressive care,
emergency/trauma, leadership and pharmacology educational sessions. The NTI capitalizes
on self-directed, facilitated learning in classroom settings and through poster
displays, a self-study pavilion, technical exhibits, and exchanges with colleagues.
Pathways Offered at NTI
For your convenience, we have designated categories to highlight specialized content.
NTI 2006 will offer the participant an opportunity to pursue areas of professional
development concentration. NTI offers Pathways in Leadership Development, Pediatrics
and Progressive Care areas. You will find these pathways identified by the corresponding
symbol.
Leadership Development Pathway
Guided by a desire to create quality learning experiences for nurse managers, NTI
will offer a "Leadership Development Pathway." This pathway will integrate
leadership competencies and leadership development to strengthen a manager's "influencing"
skills by focusing on self-awareness, dialogue, navigating change and conflict resolution.
Leadership Pathway sessions are identified by the [LD]
symbol in the program listing.
Progressive Care Pathway
Progressive care defines the care that is delivered to patients whose needs fall
along the less acute end of the continuum. Progressive care patients are stable
with a high potential for becoming unstable and require increased intensity of care
and vigilance. Characteristics of progressive care patients include: a decreased
risk of a life-threatening event, a decreased need for invasive monitoring, increased
stability and an increased ability to participate in their care. Pathway sessions
are identified by the [PC]
symbol in the program listing.
Pediatric Pathway
Nurses who care for critically ill children have the special challenge of being
able to deal with critical illness while meeting the developmental needs of patients
from tiny neonates to adult-sized adolescents. NTI offers a variety of sessions
via the Pediatric Pathway. These specialty sessions are denoted by the [PN] symbol.

In addition to general preconferences and concurrent sessions, the popular Self-Study
