Pamela Popplewell, Director

Pamela Popplewell, RN, DNP, ANP-BC, CCRN, serves a three-year term on the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) board of directors from July 1, 2010, to June 30, 2013.

As director of nursing, surgery at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System, Seattle — a position she’s held since 2009 — Popplewell enjoys a long career with the facility that includes positions of increasing responsibility and dates back to 1987.

Between 1993 and 2000, she also worked at the Seattle Institute of Biomedical and Clinical Research and Highline Care Center/Park West Center, Seattle.

She sits on the VA Puget Sound’s ethics committee and Nurse Executive Council, receiving its Excellence in Nursing Practice Nurse Executive and Excellence in Nursing for Advanced Practice awards in 2002 and 2004, respectively.

Popplewell served on AACN’s Advanced Practice Institute Planning Committee, Advanced Practice Work Group, Research Abstract Review Panel, Ethics Work Group, Progressive Care Advisory Team and Research Abstract Review Panel between 1998 and 2008.

She sits on the board of directors for AACN’s Mountain to Sound Chapter, which received the AACN Chapter Collaboration Award and President’s Award for Chapters in 2007.

Popplewell earned an associate degree in nursing from Seattle Central Community College in 1993 and Bachelor and Master of Science in nursing degrees from Seattle Pacific University in 1993 and 2003, respectively. She’s currently completing a doctorate of nursing practice degree at the University of Washington, Seattle.
