Does Your Chapter Belong in the Circle of Excellence?
Awards that recognize contributions by AACN chapters are part of the Circle of Excellence recognition program each year.
Nominations are now being accepted for these awards for 2006. The deadline to submit nominations is July 15, 2005.
For 2006, three new awards—Chapter Collaboration Award, Chapter Community Education and Public Service Award, and Chapter Value of Certification Award—have been added.
Following is information about each award:
Chapter Collaboration Award
This award will recognize chapters that exemplify collaboration in any aspect of their operations. The collaboration must include at least two entities, including an AACN chapter and an outside group, such as a hospital, college or community. Recipients will receive a personalized plaque, be announced in AACN News and be honored at AACN’s National Teaching Institute and Critical Care Exposition in Anaheim, Calif., in May 2006. Up to three awards of $1,000 each will be given.
Chapter Community Education and Public Service Award
This award replaces the Outstanding Chapter Communication System Award to recognize chapters that have made an outstanding public service contribution in their local communities through community education and involvement. Recipients will receive a personalized plaque, be announced in AACN News and be honored at NTI 2006. Up to three chapters will be awarded $1,000 each. Multichapter recipients will receive $1,000 for each collaborative endeavor.
Chapter Value of Certification Award
This award replaces the Chapter CCRN Certification Drive Award as an extension of the AACN
Certification Corporation-Value of Certification Award. It will recognize contributions that support and foster the advancement of certified nursing practice in critical care. Recipients will receive a personalized plaque, will be announced in AACN News and will be honored at the NTI. Up to three awards of $1,000 will be given.
Outstanding Chapter Educational Program Award
This revised award recognizes chapters that have done an outstanding job in providing quality educational programming to its members and other constituents while actively supporting AACN’s mission, vision and values. Chapters should demonstrate how their programming has met educational standards in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. Recipients will receive a personalized plaque, be announced in AACN News, and be honored at the NTI. Up to three awards of $1,000 each will be given.
Sharon Connor Excellence in Chapter Leadership Development Award
This award recognizes excellence in chapter leadership development and succession planning while actively supporting AACN’s mission, vision and values. Applicants should demonstrate how they implemented an effective chapter leadership structure that provides guidance, strategic planning and continuity for their chapters. Recipients will receive a personalized plaque, be announced in AACN News and be honored at the NTI. Up to three chapters will be awarded $1,000 each.
Chapter President’s Award
This award goes to the chapter or chapters that best exemplify the theme of 2005-06 AACN President Debbie Brinker, RN, MS, MSN, CCNS, CCRN. Her theme will be announced at NTI 2005 in May in New Orleans. The deadline to apply for this award is March 1, 2006.

3 Chapters Selected to Receive 2005 Chapter President’s Award
Responding to the “Live Your Contribution” theme promoted by AACN President Kathy McCauley, RN, PhD, BC, FAAN, FAHA, the past year earned three chapters the Circle of Excellence Chapter President’s Award for 2005.

Heart of the Piedmont Chapter
High Point, N.C.
This award is presented each year to the chapter or chapters that best exemplify the theme of the president. March 1, 2006, is the deadline to apply for the award for 2006, which will focus on the theme of incoming President Debbie Brinker, RN, MS, MSN, CCNS, CCRN. Her theme was to be announced at NTI 2005 in New Orleans.
