Sole, a nursing professor at the University of
Central Florida, Orlando, enjoys a research career that spans
more than 20 years, one that focuses on the physiological
phenomena and clinical practices related to airway management,
breathing and circulation. Her current study, funded by the
National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD, tests endotracheal
tube cuff pressure to prevent ventilator-associated pneumonia
and micro-aspiration, the entry of secretions or foreign
material into the trachea and lungs. Sole's research directly
influences nursing and respiratory care.
