How the grantee used this instrument: This booklet is distributed to all medical, surgical residents as they begin their rotation in the Intensive Care Unit, and to all nurses when they are hired. It is used as a quick reference guide and includes the topics: Frequently asked questions about withholding and withdrawing life support, treatment of pain in the dying ICU patient, interdisciplinary staff communications with patients and their families, and principles and practice of withdrawing life support.
