1. News: AACN Endorses Troops to Nurse Teachers Act of 2008
AACN has joined many other healthcare organizations in support of this act, which addresses the nursing faculty shortage by developing partnerships between the military and civilian schools of nursing.

2. Call for Response: Nursing Attitudes on End-of-Life Care
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing is conducting a research study examining critical care nurses’ attitudes and behaviors when providing end-of-life care in the ICU. To participate in the study, which tests instruments measuring these attitudes and behaviors, click on the following link. The deadline to respond is March 27, 2008. Participants will be eligible for a drawing to receive free registration to NTI 2008.

3. News: Treatment Strategy in ACCORD Study Changed Amid Safety Concerns
The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health has discontinued one treatment within a large, ongoing North American clinical trial of diabetes and cardiovascular disease 18 months early due to safety concerns after a review of available data, although the study will continue.

4. Research: Recognizing Clinical Excellence at All Levels of Practice (Abstract)
The authors describe the development and implementation of a program to recognize the clinical practice of clinicians from six disciplines: nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, social work and speech-language pathology.

5. Call for Comment: Proposed Revisions to Medication Management Standards

7. Resource: CDC Annual Health Statistics Report
Nearly one in five U.S. adults – more than 40 million people – report they do not have adequate access to the healthcare they need, according to the annual report on the nation’s health released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The report, "Health, United States, 2007," is a compilation of more than 150 health tables prepared by CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics.
