Evaluating patient data about pain and agitation can be confusing, making it difficult to identify which condition to treat to best manage the patients clinical need. This presentation focuses on assessing and managing pain and sedation in the critically ill adult, including identification of valid and reliable assessment tools and implementation of evidence-based interventions. It is the first session in a three-part mini-series designed to interpret the recently updated Clinical Practice Guidelines for Pain, Agitation and Delirium (PAD). The second and third sessions will examine delirium assessment and management and implementing an early progressive mobility program.
