Educational Content Areas at
NTI 2007
At NTI 2007, you'll be able to direct your educational opportunities to the
areas of professional development that interest you. NTI offers specific content
sessions in a variety of areas, including Leadership Development, Pediatrics and
Progressive Care. You will find these courses identified by the corresponding symbol.
Leadership Development
Nurse Managers require skills in
coaching, motivating and leading. Although on-the-job learning continues to be the
norm for most nurse managers, engaging in lifelong learning is essential for all
nurse managers. Guided by a desire to create quality learning experiences for nurse
managers, NTI offers specific courses in
"Leadership Development." These courses will integrate leadership competencies and
leadership development to strengthen a manager's
"influencing" skills by focusing on self-awareness,
dialogue, navigating change and conflict resolution. Leadership sessions are identified
by the
symbol
in the program listing.
Progressive Care
"Progressive care" is defined
as the care that is delivered to patients whose needs fall along the less acute
end of the continuum. Progressive care patients are moderately stable with less
complexity, require moderate resources and require intermittent nursing vigilance.
Progressive care is used to collectively describe areas that are also referred to
as Intermediate Care Units, Direct Observation Units, Step-down Units, Telemetry
Units or Transitional Care Units, as well as to define a specific level of patient
care. Progressive Care sessions are identified by the
symbol
in the program listing.
Pediatric
Nurses who care for critically
ill children have the special challenge of
being able to deal with critical
illness while meeting developmental needs of patients from tiny neonates to adult-sized
adolescents. NTI offers a variety of Pediatric sessions, denoted by the
symbol.
