While there is general agreement that alarm management is a critical safety issue, universal solutions have yet to be identified. It is important for hospitals to understand their own situation and to develop a systematic, coordinated approach to clinical alarm system management.
This live question and answer session is a continuation of AACN’s June 2013 Alarm Management webinar and will focus on implementing the Joint Commission’s clinical alarm safety National Patient Safety Goal (NPSG). The webinar provides an ideal opportunity to have your questions answered on topics such as strategies to prepare for and implement the requirements of the alarm safety NPSG.

Maria Cvach is assistant director of nursing at the John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, where she manages clinical standards and evidence-based-practice nursing. A cardiac and critical care nurse for more than 30 years, Ms. Cvach is active in the patient safety community, currently serving as chair of the Clinical Alarms Steering Committee for the Healthcare Technology Safety Institute. She has published and presented on clinical alarm management nationally and internationally.
