A Community of Exceptional Nurses
Dozens of national healthcare groups – including the interdisciplinary Critical Care Societies Collaborative (CCSC) – have partnered with the ABIM Foundation’s Choosing Wisely campaign to develop evidence-based lists of tests and procedures that may be overused in their field. Working together for more than a year, the CCSC task force identified and published five routine critical care practices that should be questioned because they may not always be necessary and could, in fact, be harmful.
This webinar, presented by AACN’s representative to the CCSC task force, explores the five routine practices to question, the process used by the task force to identify these practices and the nurse’s role in facilitating conversations with colleagues and patients about these practices.

Dr. Deborah Becker is a certified adult acute care nurse practitioner with more than 28 years of experience in critical care. As practice associate professor of nursing at the University of Pennsylvania, she oversees implementation of the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner curriculum. Her responsibilities include advising current and matriculated students and leading the school’s clinical seminar courses.
Dr. Becker recently served as the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses’ (AACN’s) representative on the CCSC’s Choosing Wisely task force. She has presented nationally and internationally on nursing and educational topics, and is a contributing author and reviewer. Her professional affiliations include AACN, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the Society for Simulation in Healthcare and Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society.
