Diane Byrum, RN, MSN, CCRN, CCNS, FCCM, clinical nurse specialist (CNS), Presbyterian Hospital Huntersville in Huntersville, N.C. — is in the second year of a three-year term on the AACN Certification Corporation board of directors and serves a one-year term as the board’s secretary/treasurer from July 1, 2012, through June 30, 2013.
Byrum held CNS and management positions with Charlotte, N.C.-based Presbyterian Hospital and Carolinas Medical Center between 2004 and 2010 and at the state’s Northeast Medical Center, Concord; Lincoln Medical Center, Lincolnton; and Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte between 1986 and 2004.
She co-owned Innovative Solutions, a Charlotte-based consultancy, from 1995 to 2003, and worked with the medical examiners of Lincoln County from 1997 to 2009.
A prominent speaker and journal article author, Byrum also reviews books and awards — including the Circle of Excellence awards — for the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN).
She has held board and committee positions with AACN’s Piedmont Carolinas Chapter, the American Heart Association, a local chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) and, prior to her AACN Certification Corporation board service, she presented review courses for CCRN nursing certification.
Named an AACN Vision Partner in 1996, Byrum received the association’s Excellence in Education and Circle of Excellence-Mentoring awards in 1998 and 2008 respectively. Named an SCCM fellow in 2005, she ranks among the 2007 “Great 100 Nurses in North Carolina.”
In 1985, Byrum graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte, where she also earned a Master of Science in nursing degree (adult health) in 1997.
