Kathryn E. Roberts, RN, MSN, CNS, CCRN, CCNS, serves a one-year term as president on the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) board of directors from July 1, 2012, to June 30, 2013.

A clinical nurse specialist in the pediatric intensive care unit at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) since 1998, Roberts enjoys a long career with the hospital, beginning as a nurse extern in 1990 and then working as a staff nurse in the cardiac step-down, cardiac intensive care and pediatric intensive care units. She is also a clinical assistant professor at Yale University School of Nursing, New Haven, Conn.

She left CHOP briefly to work as a nurse consultant at the Aldo Castaneda Institute for Congenital Health Disease, Genolier, Switzerland, between 1994 and 1995.

Roberts served on the AACN board of directors from 2008 to 2011, the AACN Certification Corporation board in 2010-2011 and the Evidence-Based Practice Work Group and President’s Chapter Award Panel in 2009-2010.

From 2001 to 2007, she also served on the National Teaching Institute & Critical Care Exposition Work Group, Nominating Committee, AACN Pediatric Advisory Team and the CE Article Review Panel.

Roberts — who earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in nursing in 1991 and 1998 respectively, from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia — belongs to AACN’s Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter, the local chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and the Society of Critical Care Medicine, which honored her with its 2007 and 2009 “Presidential Citation.”

She lectures extensively on pediatric critical care and resuscitation topics, has published research articles in peer-reviewed journals and authored multiple chapters in pediatric critical care nursing textbooks.
