Linda Harrington, PhD, RN, CNS, CPHQ, CENP, CPHIMS, serves a one-year term as chair-elect on the AACN Certification Corporation board from July 1, 2012, to June 30, 2013.

Harrington — vice president/regional chief nursing informatics officer, Catholic Health Initiatives, Englewood, Colo. — was previously vice president for advancing nursing practice at Baylor Health Care System, Dallas, where she chaired or co-chaired several major committees including the Critical Care and Advanced Practice Nurse Councils.

Harrington, vice-chair of the Texas Board of Nursing Advanced Practice Nurses Advisory Committee, has published more than 40 journal articles and book chapters, including co-author of “Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE): Important Non-Technical Issues and Considerations” in Nurse Leader, author of “Clinical Intelligence” in Journal of Nursing Administration, co-author of “Balancing Quality and Costs During Economic Downturns” in OR Nurse and “Documentation of Others’ Work in the Electronic Health Record” for Critical Care Nurse.

She speaks nationally and internationally on research, evidence-based practice and informatics related to nursing, including “The Role of Nurse Informaticists in the Emerging Field of Clinical Intelligence” at the 11th International Congress on Nursing Informatics, Montreal, Canada, and “The Leadership Journey” at AACN’s 2012 Region 15 Leadership Invitational.

Harrington also developed and launched the doctor of nursing practice program at Texas Christian University. A nurse researcher at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Plano, who played a critical role in the hospital attaining Magnet designation, she served as chief nursing officer and consultant to hospital startup companies.

Her professional memberships include the American Organization of Nurse Executives, where she served on the Technology Committee, 2011-2012, Healthcare Information Management and Systems Society, National Association of Healthcare Quality, where she serves on the Nursing Informatics Committee, and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing from 1981 to the present.

Among her many degrees, Harrington earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, a Master of Science in nursing from the University of Texas, Arlington, a doctoral degree in nursing from Texas Woman’s University, a postmaster’s certificate in nursing informatics from Duke University and a postgraduate certificate in pain management from the University of California, San Francisco.

Harrington, who lives in Dallas, has a license as a clinical nurse specialist and certifications in healthcare quality management, executive nursing practice and informatics.
