Lisa Riggs, MSN, APRN-BC, CCRN-K, serves a three-year term as a director on the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) board of directors from July 1, 2013, through June 30, 2016. She also serves a concurrent one-year term on the AACN Certification Corporation board of directors from July 1, 2015, through June 30, 2016. She was secretary on the AACN board from July 1, 2014, through June 30, 2015.
Riggs is a CV clinical nurse specialist at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Overland Park, Kansas. She was previously director of quality and patient safety at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri, from 2013 to 2015. She was also program director of CV quality at St. Luke’s from 2008 to 2013, clinical director of patient care services from 2008 to 2010 and a clinical nurse and clinical nurse specialist from 1997 to 2008.
Riggs has a long relationship with AACN and has been actively involved in the Greater Kansas City Chapter since 1990, serving twice as president/president-elect and as secretary, CCRN review coordinator and publication coordinator. An AACN ambassador from 2002 to 2012, Riggs served twice as chair of AACN’s Evidence-Based Practice Resource Work Group and on the AACN Nominating Committee in 2008-2009. She presented at AACN’s National Teaching Institute & Critical Care Exposition in 2004, 2008 and 2011 and was a member of the NTI ExpoEd Quality Surveyors team in 2008-2009.
Riggs is also a member of the American College of Cardiology (ACC), where she was on the planning committee for the ACC/i2 Summit from 2008 to 2012. She was a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine from 2005 to 2008 and the Society of Chest Pain Centers and Providers in 2003, serving on its Competency and Training Standards Task Force. In 2011, she was co-lead of the State of Missouri Time Critical Diagnosis STEMI Quality reporting regulations.
Riggs earned her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Missouri in Kansas City and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Iowa in Iowa City.
