Mary Zellinger, Secretary

Mary Zellinger, RN, MN, ANP, CCRN-CSC, CCNS, serves the second year of a three-year term and begins a one-year term as secretary on the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) board of directors from July 1, 2013, to June 30, 2014.

Zellinger has had a long association with Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, where she has worked since 1979 as a staff nurse, clinical instructor, cardiac transplant coordinator and in her current role as a clinical nurse specialist/clinical coordinator in cardiovascular services, a position she has held since 1985.

After receiving her Bachelor of Science in nursing from Duke University, Durham, N.C., Zellinger earned a master’s degree in nursing from Emory, as well as a postmaster’s degree and certification as an adult nurse practitioner. She has worked as adjunct faculty at the university’s Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing since 1989.

Zellinger has had a rich and varied relationship with AACN. A member of the Atlanta Area Chapter since 1984, she has served on various chapter committees and in a number of different roles, including chapter president.

She also has been active on a variety of national AACN committees and panels during the last decade, including the Awards Review Panel, NTI Program Planning Committee, Chapter Advisory Team, Scholarship Review Panel, CSC Virtual Item Writing Committee and the Advanced Practice Advisory Team.

Zellinger has published dozens of articles on a variety of topics, including cardiac surgery, wound care, hemodynamics and organ transplantation, and is a frequent presenter at conferences. She served on the Duke University School of Nursing Advisory Board and as co-director of CVT Critical Care 2013, Foundation for the Advancement of Cardiovascular Critical Care (FACTS-CARE) Annual Conference, Washington, D.C.
