Maureen Seckel, RN, MSN, APN, CCRN, CCNS, ACNS-BC, serves a three-year term as a director on the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) board from July 1, 2010, through June 30, 2013. She served a one-year term as secretary in 2011-2012.
A clinical nurse specialist, medical pulmonary critical care, at Christiana Care Health System, Newark, Del., since 1996, Seckel serves as adjunct faculty at the University of Delaware’s School of Nursing, Newark, a position she’s held since 1999.
She has worked at hospitals throughout the country — including Santa Cruz, Calif.; Winfield, Ill.; and Seattle — and in the emergency department at Riverside Hospital, Wilmington, Del., from 1994 to 1996, and the surgical shock trauma ICU at Medical Center of Delaware, Newark, from 1988 to 1994.
Seckel, who chaired AACN’s Evidence-Based Practice Resource Work Group in 2007-2008 and served on the Board Advisory Team in 2004-2005, frequently writes and lectures about pulmonary critical patient care.
She belongs to the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and earned 2004 and 2008 Nursing Excellence awards in Advanced Practice Nursing from Christiana Care.
Seckel earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Boston University School of Nursing in 1978 and a Master of Science in nursing and Post-Master of Science in nursing in 1994 and 2005 respectively, from the University of Delaware’s School of Nursing.
She holds national specialty certification in critical care nursing (CCRN) and clinical nurse specialist certification in acute and critical care (CCNS) and lives in Newark, Del.
