Riza V. Mauricio, Director

AACN Board July 2012 - June 2015

Riza Mauricio, RN, PhD, CCRN, CPNP, serves a three-year term as a director on the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) board from July 1, 2012, through June 30, 2015.

Currently a pediatric ICU nurse practitioner at The Children’s Hospital of the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Mauricio previously served as a pediatric nurse practitioner in bone marrow transplant/cell and gene therapy and intensive care service at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, where she was also nurse manager. She was also an instructor in the Department of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston.

Mauricio, who lives in Sugar Land, Texas, has been actively engaged with AACN for nearly a decade, having served on a variety of review panels — including awards and scholarships — participating on the Advanced Practice Institute Planning Committee in 2003-2004 and the National Teaching Institute (NTI) Program Planning Committee in 2006-2007.

She also helped develop the CCRN Pediatric Exam in 2003-2004 and is a past president of AACN’s Houston Gulf Coast Chapter. 

Among her numerous awards, she earned the John Winston Carter Academic Award of Excellence from Texas Woman’s University in 2011 and 2012, and a PNAF Fellow Award from the Philippine Nurses Association of America.

She also has received many grants, including a research grant from Sigma Theta Tau, Beta Beta Chapter in 2011 and a research grant from AACN’s Houston Gulf Coast Chapter in 2010.

In addition, she is a member of many societies and associations, including Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, Society of Critical Care Medicine, American Nurses Association, Texas Nurses Association and Philippine Nurses Association of America.

A candidate for a doctorate in nursing at Texas Woman’s University in Houston, Mauricio earned her Master of Science in nursing (also from Texas Woman’s University) and a Master of Arts in psychology from the University of San Carlos, Cebu City, Philippines, where she also earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing.
