Data collection for Thunder Project� II continues at more than 200 study sites across the United States and in Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom.
In addition, 25 sites have completed data collection and submitted their study materials to AACN. To date, more than 18,600 adult data collection packets and 2730 pediatric data collection packets have been sent to participating sites.
Thunder Project II is investigating pain perceptions and responses of acutely and critically ill patients to selected clinical procedures. The study includes children age 3 and older as well as adults. The six procedures being studied are tracheal suctioning, nonburn wound care, drain removal, turning, femoral sheath removal, and central line placement.
Femoral sheath removal, turning, and tracheal suctioning are the most prevalent procedures at sites studying adult patients. Turning and tracheal suctioning are more prevalent at pediatric sites.
