International Year of Older Persons
The International Year of Older Persons will be launched October 1, 1998, the day that will be observed as the International Day of Older Persons. The United Nations proclaimed the year to encourage increased awareness of the challenges of the demographic aging of societies, the individual and social needs of older persons, their contribution to society, and the need for a change in attitude toward older persons. “A society for all ages” is the theme.
Note: AACN will promote healthcare facts about older people and the aging process throughout the year. Look for these in future issues of AACN News.
