|Bicycle safety was the focus of the first Bicycle Helmet and Safety Fair, sponsored earlier this year by the Greater St. Louis (Mo.) Chapter of AACN.
In addition to bicycle safety checks and a bicycle obstacle course, safety helmets and prizes were given away. Information on safe biking and helmet sizing was distributed.
A Missouri state trooper, Terry Sinclair, was on hand to talk with participating children about bicycle safety. Mary K. Vasterling, a neuro-nurse specialist, used gelatin to demonstrate the brain damage that can occur in a fall when a helmet is not worn.
“We were quite proud of the success of our fair,” said Linda Stefano,
RN, CCRN, CS, public relations chairperson for the chapter.
