Three chapter meetings in 2011. One meeting in 2012. Chapter sponsored CCRN review in October 2011.

Background Information:

Chapter obtained charter in 1992 starting with 45 members. Chapter president and chapter treasurer have served three terms. 

Conflict or Issues:

A successful CCRN Review according to the chapter president was singlehandedly organized by her. She is feeling burned out.

She called for a board meeting in the fall and two people came. She is worried about the future of the chapter.

Other chapter officers say, “she wants to do everything herself so we let her. It’s her way or the highway.”

Things you need to know about this chapter:

Chapter Treasury: $2,450.00. Chapter almost disbanded in 2010 due to consistently late financial reporting. Membership dues are $10.

Authentic Leadership

  • Offer CERPs instead of CEUs.
  • Tap a “new” population student liaison.
  • Student nurses could do a PowerPoint on research.
  • Need mentors!
  • Board members mentor other board members to become certified.
  • Be open-minded
  • Evaluate ourselves every year.
  • “If we’re not changing, we’re not fulfilling our mission.” 

True Collaboration

  • Leadership is a challenge.
  • Lack of collaboration, communication, recognition.
  • Sounds like president vs. board.

Skilled Communication

  • Could be the one person believes that they are communicating effectively while they are not.
  • Maybe need “shared meaning” — vision.
    • Do a needs assessment.

Effective Decision Making

  • Possibility: Chapter Advisors or someone from National come to help or mediate.
  • Could offer “forgiven” membership for anyone who brings in new members.
  • Raffle baskets (silent auction)/free membership for anyone doing project.
  • Include students as co-chair to current board member.
    • Offer camaraderie for students to interact socially with seasoned nurses.

  • Critical care internship program (CCIP) offered 4x/year by chapter.
  • Have meetings outside of hospitals.
  • Make roles well defined.

  • Offer recognition for those that do help.
  • Meaningful recognition (CCRN, volunteer, mission).
  • Took away titles.
    • called everyone a co-chair.
