Circle of Excellence: Central Indiana Chapter
Excellence in Community Education & Public Service
Central Indiana Chapter of AACN, Indianapolis, Ind., is committed to serving community. Throughout 2011, our chapter has focused on the needs of homeless women, disadvantaged children, children with serious or chronic illnesses, homeless and hospitalized veterans, and people living with cancer, HIV and AIDS.
Each month, our members donate socks, underwear, toiletry items and money to help bridge the gaps of service to those in need. An ornament auction at the holidays provided funds for the local Ronald McDonald House. In 2011-2012, we embraced AACN’s theme of “Together. Stronger. Bolder.” by strengthening our relationship with organizations that provide care for homeless women and children.
Our annual Critical Care Bowl started the year in September by collecting personal care items and money for a women’s and children’s domestic abuse shelter that was local to our Critical Care Bowl hospital sponsor.
The following month we collected slightly used purses stuffed with personal care items that were distributed at a local homeless shelter for women and children, and in November, warm sleepers for them.
In December, in addition to our annual ornament auction, we collected toys for the shelter’s Christmas party for the children.
Each month, our members have been generous with collected items and monetary gifts. In the coming months, monthly collections are scheduled to focus on the current needs of the shelter.
An educational health fair is planned for the spring. An exciting addition to our efforts is that many times our industry partners who sponsor our meetings have joined our efforts and added to our efforts.
Together with the strength of our members, our industry partners and these community agencies, we want to empower these women to face their future as stronger women with bolder goals.
