Educational Programming: Broward County Chapter
The Broward County Chapter of AACN, Fort Lauderdale, Florida., Dares To strive for excellence in education.
Monthly meetings, which support the needs of critical care nurses as they care for patients and families, include topics such as:
- TAVR: New Hope for Non-Surgical Patients
- Hyponatremia in Heart Failure: Treating Beyond the Primary Diagnosis
- Skin and Wound Challenges in the ICU
- A Different Mechanism for Sedation in the ICU and OR
- Healthy Work Environments
Our chapter hosted a meeting with the association of PACU nurses to encourage collaboration among specialties.
The Certification Celebration Luncheon recognized CCRN and PCCN members, and guest speaker Connie Barden’s topic, “A Community of Exceptional Nurses: Certification Matters,” challenged participants to “Dare To Encourage Certification.”
Two CCRN/PCCN review courses are held each year. The October review was attended by participants from hospitals in our tri-county area, and the second review is scheduled for February 2013.
The 38th Annual Spring Seminar is planned for April 20, 2013. Kathryn Roberts, 2012–2013 AACN national president, will deliver the keynote address: “Do You Dare To?” Other topics include traumatic brain injury, sepsis, continuous veno-venous hemodialysis, difficult airways, ethical case studies and families as integral team members.
