Leadership Development: Broward County Chapter
Since formation of the Broward County Chapter of AACN in 1972, members collaborate on nursing-related issues and receive current information to help them give the highest quality care possible to patients and families. BCC’s goals are to recruit new members, identify potential leadership candidates and groom them for leadership.
The organization works with hospital representatives throughout Broward County to ensure chapter activities are shared. The immediate past chapter president remains on the board to facilitate collaboration with hospital representatives.
AACN’s mission, vision, values and ethic of care align with the leadership ideas and styles in the chapter’s evolving strategic plan, which is to:
- Promote certification.
- Develop CNE programs that focus on current issues.
- Analyze budgets and financial sustainability.
- Communicate with members.
- Identify community service opportunities.
- Promote a healthy work environment.
Using AACN’s Chapter Transition Checklist, new and outgoing leaders meet to celebrate successes, formalize new agendas, foster new ideas, build relationships among chapter leaders and discuss opportunities for improvement. The Chapter Resource Guide is passed from outgoing to new leaders.
During the strategic planning session, two to four board members are selected to attend the Leadership Development Workshop, and chapter officers review the Chapter Bylaws.
