Educational Programming: Delmarva Chapter

The Delmarva Chapter of AACN, Salisbury, Md., serves a large rural area encompassing lower Delaware and the eastern shores of Maryland and Virginia. We “Dare To” offer excellent educational programming that exemplifies the mission, vision and values of AACN.

The Delmarva Chapter offers high-quality educational opportunities that promote excellence in our community of nurses, improve patient outcomes and promote wellness.

We assess our educational needs using an electronic needs assessment, ongoing informal feedback and a Strength, Weakness, Opportunity and Threat (SWOT) analysis. We use the results of our assessment to plan high-quality educational offerings, which also led to two new education co-chair positions and a conference planning committee.

We adopted a variety of educational opportunities: a 15-minute “Educational Moment” at monthly meetings, quarterly formal educational programs including collaborative offerings and our annual critical care conference. Some ideas presented at our Educational Moments, such as The DAISY Award and bedside reporting, have been implemented in other local institutions.

The Delmarva Chapter provides nurses the opportunity to dream, lead, change and act to make positive changes in clinical practice. Our overall goal is to improve the knowledge and skills of our local nurses, guided by evidence-based practice.
