Collaboration: South Central Connecticut Chapter

Dare To …

The South Central Connecticut Chapter of AACN exemplifies the mission and vision of AACN by promoting certification for acute and critical care nurses.

In 2007, a chapter member identified the need to prepare fellow nurses for certification exams. She invited representatives from Yale New Haven Hospital, The Hospital of Saint Raphael, MidState Medical Center, Middlesex Hospital, the Veterans Administration Healthcare System of Connecticut and our chapter to form a collaborative group.

We decided on an annual two-day CCRN/PCCN certification review. Speakers for this event are volunteers from these institutions, content experts and/or certified as a CCRN and/or PCCN. Vendor support allows the profits to be returned to the participating institutions and the chapter.

These funds support registration fees for the following year’s review to assist more nurses in the certification process. Through this collaboration, we have increased our chapter’s certified members to more than 50 percent.

Our goal is to continue to support AACN’s mission and vision through certification via this collaborative relationship with area hospitals, to assist nurses through the certification process and to mentor new nurses who will follow in our path.
