Debbie Brinker, AACN Past-President, shared her personal experience in respecting a family's beliefs.

The story

"I worked with my colleagues to transform the system to work for my patient. We brought the family to the roof of the hospital, and the spirit of a Native-American child was released to the heavens as he died. The family found peace in their belief that a spirit can only be set free when facing the sky. Their healing process began as they thanked us for helping them to give their son a good death."
