Samantha Abate, assistant nurse manager, Cardiac ICU and Cardiac Step Down, and Michele Zucconi, clinical director, Cardiac Care Center — both with South Jersey Healthcare-Regional Medical Center, Vineland — are two of the authors of “Impact of Canine-Assisted Ambulation on Hospitalized Chronic Heart Failure Patients’ Ambulation Outcomes and Satisfaction” in the May/June Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing.

Connie Barden, eICU clinical nurse specialist, Baptist Health South Florida, Miami, and AACN past president; and Mary Bylone, interim vice president, Patient Care Services, chief nursing officer, The William W. Backus Hospital, Norwich, Conn., and an AACN board member, co-wrote the chapter “Creating a Healthy Work Environment: A Leadership Accountability” in “Nursing Management: Principles and Practice,” 2nd edition, published by the Oncology Nursing Society.

Marla De Jong, executive director of the TriService Nursing Research Program, Bethesda, Md., a recipient of the AACN Flame of Excellence Award and a member since 1989, is inducted into the University of Kentucky College of Nursing Hall of Fame, Lexington.

John Dixon, past member of AACN’s board of directors and an association member since 1984, is named vice president of Medicine and Cardiovascular Services at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas. Previously director of The Center for Nursing Education and Research at Baylor, Dixon will oversee the medicine, telemetry and 23-hour observation units, the Respiratory Therapy Department and The Center. He is also an adjunct graduate faculty member with the University of Texas at Arlington College of Nursing.

Tonja Hartjes, clinical nurse educator, Malcolm Randall VA Medical Center, Gainesville, Fla., earned an acute care doctorate of nursing practice degree from University of Florida, Gainesville.

The Nursing Education Alumni Association of Teachers College, Columbia University, New York, presents Ramón Lavandero, AACN director of communications and strategic alliances, with the Achievement Award for Nursing Practice and induction into its Nursing Hall of Fame. Lavandero, who is a past member of the AACN and AACN Certification Corporation boards of directors, is also clinical associate professor, Yale University School of Nursing, New Haven, Conn.

Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire, Wis., promotes Kate Nulsen, previously assistant director, to director of the hospital’s Critical Care Department. She also volunteers at the Chippewa Valley Free Clinic, Eau Claire.

Margie Par, critical care nurse, charge nurse and preceptor, Rush Oak Park Hospital, Ill., receives the hospital’s 2011 Clinical Nursing Excellence Award. She is also a member of the hospital’s ICU Advisory Committee.
