Liz Capezuti, most recently Dr. John W. Rowe Professor in Successful Aging, New York University College of Nursing, and director of NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders), becomes the Hearst Foundation Chair in Gerontology at Hunter College of the City University of New York.

Katie Carney, director of nursing, The MetroHealth System, Cleveland, receives a University of Akron (Ohio) School of Nursing 2013 Distinguished Alumni Award, for her outstanding service.
Barbara Drew, David Mortara Distinguished Professor in Physiological Nursing Research and clinical professor of medicine, cardiology, University of California San Francisco School of Nursing, and a past recipient of the AACN-GE Healthcare Pioneering Spirit Award, was interviewed about her research to resolve alarm fatigue on Science Today, a daily radio feature produced by the university.
The board of trustees for CGFNS International, Philadelphia, a credentials evaluation organization, announces the following:
  • Sean Clarke, professor and Susan E. French Chair in Nursing Research, Ingram School of Nursing, McGill University, Montreal, Canada, becomes a new board member.
  • Mary Foley, associate director, Center for Research & Innovation in Patient Care, University of California San Francisco School of Nursing, continues her term on the board.
  • Norma Lang, professor, University of Wisconsin School of Nursing, Milwaukee, just completed her term of service.
Afaf Meleis, Margaret Bond Simon Dean of Nursing and professor of nursing and sociology, University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, Philadelphia, receives the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association Distinguished Nurse Award in recognition of her leadership.
Anne O’Sullivan, Dr. Hildagarde Reynolds Endowed Term Professor of Primary Care Nursing, University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, Philadelphia, is elected to a second term on the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Chicago. She is also a member and past chair of the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing, Harrisburg.
Bob Phillips, previously assistant chief nursing officer at Crestwood Medical Center, Huntsville, Ala., becomes chief nursing officer at Medical Center Enterprise, Enterprise, Ala. He served in the U.S. Air Force and earned a master’s in management from Florida Technical University.
The Sepsis Alliance, San Diego, names GE Healthcare Education Services a Sepsis Hero for its leadership in raising awareness and educating healthcare professionals about sepsis, an often deadly infection.
