The National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists, Philadelphia, names the recipients of its 2013 awards. Lianna Ansryan, Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Preceptor of the Year, is a CNS with the Frailty Task Force, Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles; Brenda McCulloch, CNS at Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento, Calif., is named CNS of the Year; Patricia O’Malley, nurse researcher, Center of Nursing Excellence, and clinical nurse specialist, Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio, receives the Sue B. Davidson Service Award; Mary Lou Sole, Orlando Health Distinguished Professor at the University of Central Florida College of Nursing and past recipient of AACN’s Distinguished Research Lectureship, is named Researcher of the Year.
D Magazine names Trish Batsell, director of critical care services, Lake Pointe Medical Center, Rowlett, Texas, an Excellence in Nursing finalist in the intensive care category, for going “above and beyond” in her profession.
Umkembia (Kim) Gardner becomes clinical manager of Unit 34, Greater Baltimore Medical Center, Towson, Md., after serving on an interim basis since September 2012. An eight-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, she earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of Maryland.
Kathryn Roberts, clinical nurse specialist, Pediatric ICU, The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia; clinical assistant professor, Yale University School of Nursing, New Haven, Conn.; and immediate past president of the AACN board of directors, received the Expert Clinical Award from the Penn Nursing Alumni Awards Committee during the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing Alumni Weekend celebration in May.
Pat Rowland, registered nurse, Watauga Medical Center, Boone, N.C., receives a Nursing Excellence Award from Appalachian Regional Healthcare System. With more than 15 years of nursing experience, she serves on the system’s Professional Development Council and also precepts nursing students.
