4. Research: Duration of Red Cell Storage and Complications after Cardiac Surgery (Abstract)
Transfusions of red blood cells stored for more than two weeks then used during cardiac surgery significantly increased patients’ risk of postoperative complications and reduced their short-term and long-term survival.

5. News: Multidrug-resistant Tuberculosis on the Rise Worldwide
A February 2008 report from the World Health Organization (WHO) indicates that Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) is more prevalent than ever, with an estimated 500,000 new cases of MDR-TB identified each year.
