April 16, 2008 has been designated National Healthcare Decisions Day, an opportunity to promote advance care planning in your community and state. The National Healthcare Decisions Day Initiative is a collaborative effort of national, state and community organizations committed to ensuring that all adults with decision-making capacity in the U. S. have the information and opportunity to communicate and document their healthcare decisions.

2. Resource: Webcast Highlights CCFAP
Earn continuing education credit and learn all about the Critical Care Family Assistance Program (CCFAP), by watching a new webcast produced by AACN. The presentation was supported by a charitable grant from Eli Lilly and Company. CCFAP was developed by the CHEST Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP), in partnership with the Eli Lilly and Company Foundation.

4. Reminder for Chapter Leaders: Leadership Development Workshop Registration Deadline Next Week
The registration deadline for the Leadership Development Workshop at NTI 2008 is Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008. Speaker for this year’s event is Stacy D. Nelson of VitalSmarts. 5. Research: Severe Hypoglycemia in Critically Ill Patients: Risk Factors and Outcomes (Abstract)
The study’s investigators found that even a single episode of severe hypoglycemia was independently associated with increased risk of mortality.

6. Research: Association of Lifetime Alcohol Drinking Trajectories With Cardiometabolic Risk (Abstract)
This study was designed to examine whether lifetime drinking trajectories are associated with cardiovascular risk factors that are used to define the metabolic syndrome. Early initiation of alcohol drinking and heavy drinking in adolescence and early adulthood may be associated with an adverse cardiometabolic profile.

7. Call for Abstracts: American Assembly for Men in Nursing Conference
The American Assembly for Men in Nursing (AAMN) is currently accepting submissions for oral and poster presentations for its annual conference. AAMN is seeking submissions from nursing and other disciplines to present at the conference. Deadline for submission is April 30, 2008.
