1. Research: Lower Survival From In-Hospital Cardiac Arrest on Nights and Weekends (Abstract)
Survival rates from in-hospital cardiac arrest are lower during nights and weekends, according to this recent study.

2. News: Study Finds Improved Cognitive Health Among Older Americans
Cognitive impairment rates among older Americans are on the decline, according to a recent NIH-supported study comparing the cognitive health of older people in 1993 and 2002. Among the findings, researchers noted that participants with higher levels of education had better cognitive health.

4. Call for Applications: John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Awards
The Joint Commission and the National Quality Forum are accepting applications for the 2008 John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Awards, which recognize individuals and healthcare organizations that are making significant contributions in improving patient safety and quality. The deadline for nominations is April 14.

5. Second Call for Response: Nursing Attitudes on End-of-Life Care
This is the second phase of research being conducted at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing examining critical care nurses’ attitudes and behaviors when providing end-of-life care in the ICU. If you previously responded to this survey, please complete Sections 1 and 2. Those responding for the first time should complete all three sections. To participate, click on the following link. The deadline to respond is April 3, 2008. Participants will be eligible for a drawing to receive free registration to NTI 2008.
