Somanetics Corporation and INVOS System

Somanetics Corporation and its INVOS System are the clinical reference standard in noninvasive cerebral/somatic (brain and body) oximetry. Somanetics is the U.S. technology pioneer and market leader of the INVOS (In-Vivo Optical Spectroscopy) System, which noninvasively measures changes in site-specific blood oxygen levels to help hospital care teams protect patients against brain and vital organ-area damage — even death.

Acting as a vital sign, the INVOS System augments traditional metrics by giving nurses and physicians continuous, real time and direct visibility to cerebral and somatic oxygen saturation levels in up to four, site-specific vascular beds, helping improve patient assessment and decision making.

Nurses, physicians, anesthesiologists and other medical professionals use INVOS System monitoring on adults, children, infants and neonates — any patient who is at risk of reduced-flow or no-flow ischemic states. Monitoring is most commonly done in pediatric and neonatal intensive care units, the operating room, interventional cardiac catheterization labs and emergency room.

More than 600 published clinical references report patient and care team benefits with INVOS System monitoring. For children, infants and neonates, clinical benefits include enhanced detection of oxygen threats associated with low cardiac output and renal failure, to name a few. For adults, published clinical benefits include reductions in major organ morbidity or mortality, stroke, post-operative cognitive difficulties and more.

Used in 210,000 procedures annually and by 700 U.S. hospitals — including 80 percent of centers performing pediatric cardiac surgery the INVOS System is rapidly becoming a standard of care.
