January 2013 Ambassador Update: Think NTI

We are off and running as this new year begins — and you are an important partner as we take on two key initiatives right out of the gate. First, registration is open for the 2013 National Teaching institute & Critical Care Exposition.

As always, we count on you to help us spread the word about NTI and motivate as many high acuity and critical care nurses as possible to make it to Boston this May for this unparalleled learning and networking opportunity. See the lead article below for details on resources we’ll provide to assist you with this request.

Secondly, the process for the election of our 2014 Board of Directors and Nominating Committee is gaining momentum as we head toward the spring voting period. In the February Ambassador Update, we’ll provide you with resources to help us get the vote out.

As we begin 2013 and tackle these two core AACN undertakings, I am more excited than ever to work with you amazing leaders. Your support of AACN and our community of exceptional nurses is simply amazing. I’m a lucky person.

Thank you,

NTI 2013

Special Informational Packet Headed Your Way

In the very near future, an informational packet on AACN’s 2013 National Teaching Institute & Critical Care Exposition will arrive in your USPS mailbox. The conference – AACN’s 40th annual – is in Boston May 20-23 with pre-conferences May 18-19. Online conference registration is open.

Because you are a vital AACN leader in your facility and community, we want to assure you have the resources you need to build a strong case among your colleagues, your organization’s decision makers and your chapter members for attending NTI.

The packet will include:

  • NTI posters
  • NTI brochures
  • NTI Talking Points guide sheet

Connecting the Dots

We’ve also added a new guide sheet to this year’s packet entitled: Building a Strong Case for NTI: Connect the Dots.

This guide offers suggestions on how to effectively use the NTI ROI (Return on Investment) Toolkit to help your colleagues (and yourself) write strong business proposals for attending NTI. It specifically offers ideas on actions you can take to help colleagues connect the dots between NTI educational offerings, their institution’s needs and individual professional development needs.

If you don’t receive your NTI packet in the mail by Feb. 1, contact us at ambassadors@aacn.org.

Attention NE Ambassadors

A new feature at this year’s NTI will be a one-day Patient Safety Summit on Wednesday, May 22.

While the intensive focus on this hot topic will be a great talking point for all ambassadors, it also presents a unique opportunity for ambassadors in the Northeast Region to encourage institutions to send staff for a one-day session that promises great return on investment — with an eye to tight budgets.

Details are available in the NTI brochure.

Share Your Ambassador Success Stories

In preparation for an exciting and interactive Ambassador Session at this year’s NTI, we want to hear about your successes as an ambassador.

We know that many of you set out to achieve specific goals for your unit/facility, and we want to hear what’s working. Your success stories could be very helpful and motivating for your fellow ambassadors and for the staff at the national office.

Please take a few minutes to access the Ambassador Success Story Questionnaire and tell your story. We hope to share some of these in the NTI Ambassador Session so please contribute.

New ACNPC-AG Review Course Offered at No Cost If Exam Purchased

AACN Technology-Based Learning has developed a new ACNPC-AG Certification review course to help prospective certificants better prepare for the exam. Authored and presented by subject matter experts and nurse educators, the review course fully aligns with the new ACNPC-AG test plan, following the same modular content structure as the plan.

The ACNPC-AG review course currently is available in an on-demand format (streaming from the AACN website). CNE is available for the course.

As a special value to prospective certificants, the on-demand version of the course is being offered at no cost to individuals who purchase the ACNPC-AG exam. The review course is now available through the AACN Bookstore.

How You Can Help

A flyer with detailed background information on this new course will be posted to the Ambassador website in the near future. Please share the flyer with appropriate colleagues and faculty.
