Every year we ask you, our volunteers, to complete a survey to help us improve the volunteer program to better utilize your talents, accommodate your needs and recognize the incredibly valuable work that you do.

We’ve been looking very closely at the comments and suggestions we’ve received and, as a result, have created this page to address questions and concerns and provide up-to-date information on volunteer process changes and news.

New Volunteer Webinar

Our new volunteer webinar provides a general overview of the volunteer program and the types of opportunities available. You’ll also find detailed instructions and tips on the process of becoming a volunteer.

We hope this tool will be useful both to members who are new to the volunteer program and to those who want more background on our processes and tips to increase their chances of being selected.

Volunteer Report for Fiscal Year 2013
(July 1, 2012 – June 30, 2013)

We are constantly searching for new ways to engage our members through volunteer opportunities. Because AACN is a community of more than 100,000 members, we strive to engage representatives with a wide variety of perspectives and experiences to act in the best interest of our large and diverse membership. 

The number of groups and positions offered is dictated by the organization’s needs in a particular year; therefore, numbers will fluctuate from year to year.

Here is a snapshot of the volunteer program in Fiscal Year 2013  —  (These statistics do not include the 1000+ members of the Ambassador Program or the thousands of members who volunteer with their local chapters):

  • Number of volunteer groups: 35
  • Number of new volunteer groups: 10
  • Number of volunteers engaged: 794
  • Percentage of opportunities offered to staff nurses: 65%

Volunteer Process 

In October 2011, we streamlined the volunteer application process to make it more efficient for our volunteers. Instead of requiring volunteers to submit a separate application for each volunteer opportunity (which required submission of similar demographic information for each application), we now ask volunteers to upload a CV to their Volunteer Profile. This is done only once and then updated as needed.

Volunteers applying for specific opportunities are still asked to complete a brief questionnaire, but it only includes questions specific to that particular opportunity. General information regarding employment, education, etc. is obtained from the CV.

Feedback

If you are not selected for a volunteer group, we would be happy to provide you with feedback. Simply contact the Volunteer Department and we will work with the AACN leadership who made the selections for that group to provide you honest, constructive reasons behind decisions.
