Lisa Riggs, MSN, APRN-BC, CCRN-K, serves a one-year term as immediate past president of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) board of directors from July 1, 2019, through June 30, 2020, and co-chair of the AACN – AACN Certification Corporation Nominating Committee. She was president from July 1, 2018, through June 30, 2019, and president-elect from July 1, 2017, through June 30, 2018. She also served a three-year term as a director from July 1, 2013, through June 30, 2016, and a concurrent one-year term on the AACN Certification Corporation board of directors from July 1, 2015, through June 30, 2016. She was secretary on the AACN board from July 1, 2014, through June 30, 2015.
Riggs is system director regulatory readiness at Saint Luke’s Health System, Kansas City, Missouri. She was previously a cardiovascular clinical nurse specialist at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Overland Park, Kansas. Riggs served as director of quality and patient safety at Saint Luke’s (2013-2015), program director of cardiovascular quality (2008-2013), clinical director of patient care services (2008-2010) and a clinical nurse and clinical nurse specialist (1997-2008).
She has a long relationship with AACN and has been actively involved in the Greater Kansas City Chapter since 1990, serving twice as president/president-elect and as chapter secretary. An AACN ambassador from 2002 to 2012, Riggs served twice as chair of AACN’s Evidence-Based Practice Resource Work Group and on the AACN Nominating Committee (2008-2009). She has presented at AACN’s National Teaching Institute & Critical Care Exposition several times.
Riggs is also a member of the American College of Cardiology, American Nurses Association and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
She earned a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Missouri in Kansas City and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Iowa in Iowa City.
