Nikki Dotson-Lorello, BSN, RN, CCRN, CPTC, serves a three-year term as a director on the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) board of directors from July 1, 2017, through June 30, 2020. She also serves a one-year term as secretary from July 1, 2019, through June 30, 2020.

Dotson-Lorello is RN clinical supervisor at Levine Cancer Institute, Atrium Health, Charlotte, North Carolina. Her responsibilities include assisting the nurse manager with daily operations of the clinic. Previously, she was an organ recovery coordinator for LifeShare of the Carolinas, Atrium Health, Charlotte, North Carolina.

An AACN ambassador since 2007, Dotson-Lorello has been a reviewer for the Circle of Excellence awards, chapter awards and poster abstracts, and a member of the AACN Nominating Committee. She was a Region 9 chapter advisor and a member of AACN’s Piedmont Carolinas Chapter, also serving as president and a board member.

In 2016, she partnered with The DAISY Foundation to establish the first Organ Procurement Program to recognize organ donor nurses at the bedside. In 2015, she founded Lorello Legal Nurse Consulting and became a member of the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants. She has also authored manuscript chapters for Elsevier regarding organ and tissue donation, and was a manuscript reviewer for Dimensions of Critical Care Nursing.

Additional affiliations include working with NATCO: The Organization for Transplant Professionals, the North Carolina Nurses Association and the Oncology Nursing Society. She has worked with Tri It For Life, in Charlotte, which helps women focus on themselves and train for triathlons.

Dotson-Lorello earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Winston-Salem State University, North Carolina in 2002. She became a certified procurement transplant coordinator in 2011.
