The prevalence of hospital-acquired infection is a significant concern in acutely and critically ill patients. Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) contributes to mortality in these patients. Oral hygiene is considered to be an important intervention, in combination with other strategies, for the prevention of VAP.
