Session Summary

33% of critically-impaired ICU patients are unable to effectively summon help and communicate with their caregivers. Barriers to effective patient-provider communication place patients at an increased risk of experiencing preventable adverse medical events and added stress. Implementing easily adaptable strategies in the ICU allows patients to be active participants in medial decision making and can help reduce preventable adverse events and associated healthcare costs.

  • Explain the role of ICU specific technologies in overcoming communication barriers.
