Session Summary

This presentation covers limitations of BP, HR and urine output to assess the volume patient’s volume status. Fluid statuses are differentiated from volume responsiveness. Methods to measure volume responsiveness are presented. Interactive case studies involving management of both fluid and vasoactive therapies with different hemodynamic technologies are presented. Identifying which technology is best, based on the clinical situation, is also addressed.

Objectives

  • Discuss the limitations of BP, HR and urine output for determining fluid balance.
  • Differentiate fluid balance from volume responsiveness.
  • Identify two methods to more accurately reflect volume responsiveness.
