Activity Summary

It is well recognized that patients undergo many tests and procedures during a hospital stay. The concept of high-value healthcare has been promoted as a way to improve healthcare, eliminate unnecessary testing and produce the best outcomes at the lowest cost. While reports of measures to promote high-value healthcare exist in the literature, little is known about the impact of APRN-led initiatives targeting high-value healthcare. This session highlights the role that APRNs can play in promoting clinical practice changes by targeting implementation of initiatives (eg, the Choosing Wisely® campaign), to improve use of tests and procedures in promoting high-value healthcare.

Objectives

  • Review concepts related to promoting high-value healthcare as a means of demonstrating APRN impact.
  • Discuss methods for integrating the Choosing Wisely® campaign recommendations as part of APRN care.
  • Identify strategies for implementing APRN-led initiatives promoting high-value healthcare.
