Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes
The cellular mechanisms of ARDS and subsequent alveolar damage are presented in this concurrent session. The traditional definition of ARDS is compared with the revised Berlin criteria. The phases of ARDS are described. The literature supporting current treatment options, including both pharmacologic therapies and mechanical ventilation strategies, are reviewed. Case study analysis is used to illustrate concepts learned based on literature findings.
Objectives
- Define ARDS based on 2012 revised Berlin criteria and describe the pathophysiology.
- Describe pharmacologic therapies for the patient in ARDS based on the current literature.
- Describe mechanical ventilation strategies for the patient in ARDS based on the current literature.
