Activity Summary

Critical care nurse leaders encounter situations that trigger intense emotions. Emotional intelligence (EI) is your ability to be self-aware and self-regulate, while engaging in interpersonal relationships using skilled communication. High EI leaders develop resiliency, staff retention and better patient outcomes. Participants complete a brief EI assessment. Multimodal teaching techniques guide participants through the tenants of EI and they leave with strategies to develop their EI.

  • Describe the impact that emotional intelligence has on manager resiliency, staff retention and patient safety/outcomes.
  • Explore strategies and resources to develop and lead with emotional intelligence.
