Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

Meaningful recognition, a critical element of a healthy work environment for nurses, promotes personal growth and contributes to increased job satisfaction. This session discusses results from a mixed-methods study exploring how today’s nurses perceive meaningful recognition in contemporary practice. Attendees gain foundational knowledge of the concept, as well as insight into how an increasingly diverse nursing workforce prefers to be recognized for their exceptional service and skill.

Objectives

  • Explain the concept of meaningful recognition and describe its role in the development of a healthy work environment.
  • Analyze the impact of demographic and nursing-related characteristics on individual preferences for different forms of recognition.
  • Describe the importance of applying a diversity, equity, and inclusion framework when designing nursing award and recognition programs.
