The HWE National Collaborative is an education, mentorship and co-learning program that facilitates implementation of the HWE Standards among a national network of hospitals working together.

Duration

24 months

Participants

Estimated 135 units in 45 hospitals – three units per hospital, with one critical care unit required

Start Date

Spring 2024 (exact date TBD)

Scope

Interdisciplinary participation across the continuum of care within each hospital (reflective of a typical patient’s wellness journey)

Approach

Curriculum based on implementation science methodology and evidence-based strategies to support sustainable integration of AACN’s HWE Standards into unit culture

Format

Hybrid program delivery including both virtual and in-person learning and collaboration

  • Monthly virtual co-learning sessions
  • One in-person program kickoff followed by two collaborative meetings (one each at mid-point and conclusion)
Team Composition

13 healthcare professionals per hospital team:

  • 1 Hospital executive
  • 1 Director
  • 1 Physician
  • 1 CNS or educator
  • 3 Direct care managers (1 from each of the 3 units)
  • 3 Direct care RNs (1 from each of the 3 units)
  • 3 Non-nurse representatives from healthcare teams that interact with all 3 units (e.g., RT, PT, nutrition, pharmacy, etc.)
Measurement

Periodic data collection to assess progress, including Healthy Work Environment Assessment Tool surveys.

Cost

Largely subsidized by AACN Innovation Grant funding – $1,500 per unit ($4,500 total for a three-unit hospital team)
