Susan Bartos

Susan Bartos, PhD, RN, CCRN, serves a three-year term as a director on the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) Board of Directors from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2029.
Bartos is a clinical outcomes specialist at Carolinas Medical Center, Atrium Health, in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she specializes in cardiology, critical care, clinical outcomes and research methodologies.
Her AACN activities include serving on the editorial board of American Journal of Critical Care; lead subject matter expert on the ECCO Module Review Panel, cardiovascular disorders, part 4 (ICU and PCU); co-chair of the Critical Care Scope and Standards Committee; and being an AACN ambassador. She is also a member and board member at-large of the Piedmont Carolinas Chapter.
Additional affiliations include the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists (NACNS), North Carolina Chapter of NACNS and the North Carolina Nurses Association, where she serves as the student representative in 2026.
Among her publications, Bartos co-authored “Experiences of Nurses During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Mixed-Methods Study,” in AACN Advanced Critical Care, March 2021, and “Implementing a Professional E-Learning Program in an Academic Classroom,” Nursing2021.
She completed a PhD in Nursing at University of Connecticut, with a focus on the self-care practices of women with heart failure; and a BSN with honors from Moravian University. She will soon earn a clinical nurse specialist post master’s certificate from Eastern Carolina University.
Bartos adds, “If I wasn’t a nurse, I’d be a meteorologist. I can recite the (original) movie ‘Twister’ word for word (with about 90% accuracy!).”
