Project Goals/Objectives:

  1. Decrease hospital acquired pressure injuries (HAPI) (annualized) by 25%
  2. Increase the Healthy Work Environment Assessment Tool (HWEAT) True Collaboration score from 3.83 to greater than 4.0 by month 12 of project
  3. Decrease reported exhaustion score on the Oldenburg Burnout Inventory (OLBI) by 10% by month 12 of project

Project Outcomes:

  1. Decrease from 27 HAPI to 21 HAPI (22%) over the course of the project
  2. Decrease in HWEAT aggregate 4.29->3.77 (Low N 23-30%) True Collaboration increased 3.38-> 4.36 (↑29%)
  3. OLBI 39.93 -> 38.83 w ↓both E & D
  4. Reduced HAPIs 27->21 (22%)
  5. Potential annualized savings $223,889

Project Overview:

This project targeted the reduction of HAPIs on a 20-bed adult medical-surgical unit with an average daily census of 15 patients and 759 annualized admissions. Baseline data revealed HAPI rates exceeded national benchmarks, while initial assessments via (OLBI) and HWEAT indicated critical opportunities to improve staff engagement and True Collaboration.
